MIKADO RUG Emma Boomkamp for La Manufacture

Playtime rug collection is inspired by childhood. A nod to the playground, the first place where we experience interplay with others between sharing and competition, according to Mexico based designer Emma Boomkamp. The patterns are entangled and overlaid on each other with both mischief and seriousness, always tinged with nostalgia.
The rug designs (Hopscotch, Rock Paper Scissors, Eeny Meeny Miny Moe, Abacus, Mikado) are available in tufted or handwoven wool and are the first items for the brand that are made by artisans outside of Italy.
Each piece is made in Teotitlán de Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico using local wool. In this Zapotec village before the colonisation of Mexico, inhabitants used to only weave cotton and cactus fibre on a back-strap loom. When the Spanish came to Mexico, they brought with them the treadle loom and... sheep.
