HELM SUSPENDED LIGHT Kooij
60 x 50 x H60 cm
Helm is a belted sphere grown additively from syrupy ribbons of molten, recycled plastic. Leaves of cocooning 3D printed bands cradle their fiery core, overlapping perpendicularly to encourage crystalline light refraction. When passing through the corrugated structure, light breaks, softens, and multiplies into an engulfing spread.
Kooij are and Amsterdam based studio. Working alongside a patchwork of house developed machines is a studio of highly passionate craftspeople who breathe life into the work. It is only through a union of crafts and technology that Kooij are able to carry waste from loss to luxury.
Select pieces have joined the permanent collections of the Stedelijk museum, MoMA New York, MoMA San Francisco, Vitra Design Museum, Design Museum London, and the National Museum in Oslo.
Materials: Recycled Plastic, Steel, Aluminium, Brass
Colour differences may occur due to the use of recycled materials. Kooij are unable to control the tint of the plastic, though this is the joy in working with reclaimed material.
