The Fresnel divides and scatters light through the hills and valleys of low-resolution 3D printing. As if ripples in water, the concentric design sees glittering bands pulsate outwards from a central, steel droplet.
Hot ribbons of recycled plastic build the lens slowly, layer by layer. Sourced from rooftop windows, safety glasses, and industrial chocolate moulds, this unlikely source material gifts durability and glasslike transparency to the Fresnel.
Kooij are and Amsterdam based studio. Working alongside a patchwork of house developed machines is a studio of highly passionate craftspeople who breathe life into the work. It is only through a union of crafts and technology that Kooij are able to carry waste from loss to luxury.
Select pieces have joined the permanent collections of the Stedelijk museum, MoMA New York, MoMA San Francisco, Vitra Design Museum, Design Museum London, and the National Museum in Oslo.

Colour differences may occur due to the use of recycled materials. Kooij are unable to control the tint of the plastic, though this is the joy in working with reclaimed material.
